I never thought I’d cross over to the dark side and become an editor. And to be good at it? To enjoy editing? I have The Rose & Thorn Literary Ezine to blame. Through my Senior Editor work, I gain(ed) insights into my own writing, learn(ed) much about patience, learn(ed) much about how the other side works when it comes to submitting material and then either having it rejected, or joy of joys, having it accepted and passed on to an editor. Transitioning over to manuscript editing has been just as rewarding. There is the opportunity to work with incredibly gifted writers, like those below, and maybe you will be one of them.

If you are interested in having your work edited or critiqued, this is how to get started:

First, contact me via the email link below. Tell me a little about yourself and the work you want edited or critiqued--is it a completed novel, a WIP, a collection? Nonfiction? How many words? Genre? Literary?, etc. Next, I will ask for a sample of your work. If from that sample, I believe I am the right editor for the job, I will edit that sample (no charge for this edit sample, of course). I will then send you back the sample with my edits. From that sample edit, you can then determine if you think I am the right person to edit your work; if so, we then discuss fees, general timelines, and other details, such as, do you want a full edit or only a general "critique" of your work. This is a business transaction and will be done in a professional, safe, and confidential manner. Can I promise perfection? No. Can I promise an agent will love you? No. Can I promise you will be published? No. All I can do is help you to see your work in an insightful way, to discover the hidden gems, to help you to make your work stronger. What I won’t do is change your voice, your style, the very essence of you and your characters’ voices. Email me if you are interested in editing and/or critiquing services.

"Without question, Kathryn Magendie is one of the best editors in the business. I was fortunate enough to have her work on my third novel, A House Divided, and because of Kathryn's guidance, keen eye, and flawless internal rhythm that recognizes what works and doesn't work well in a story, AHD far out-sold my prior three novels. She's absolutely remarkable!" -- Deborah Leblanc, author of Family Inheritance, Grave Intent, A House Divided (www.deborahleblanc.com).

"Kathryn did outstanding work on my manuscript. I've had plenty of readers since I began writing, paid and unpaid, but no one beats Kathryn even close. She doesn't miss a single line or paragraph that is off. I love her brain-storming, gut-feeling style of commenting. She's honest yet very very very constructive. Normally people have hard time combining the two but she does. An excellent editor. I'm jealous of anyone she treats next." -- Adnan Mahmutovic, author of [REFUGE]E, and FATIMA (www.adnanmahumtovic.com).

"Kat Magendie recently helped me tighten a WIP, taking it to another level. She knows what questions to ask and how to ask them. Her fine eye for detail and for focusing a story, along with her respect for your voice and your work, make her an editorial treasure. Plus, she's the kind of person you'd want to go out and have a helluva good time with!" -- Barbara Quinn, Author of: 36C and Slings and Arrows
